I carry it all the time. And I'm glad I do. I am fairly adventurous so if the sunset is looking nice, I'll leave work and take the 2 hour trip to a nice beach north of here. If it's looking rainy, I know where to go - it's just nice not to have to come all the way home to pick it up. I carry it EVERYwhere. I may not get "truly great" pictures no matter what I do - but I never miss something I really want.

I use two cameras.
The DSLR plus all lenses, accessories, batteries, remote, filters, cards etc. lives in a LoewePro NatureTrekker (backpack), which is heavy, especially with tripod attached. I carry it everywhere and almost all the time, except when running errands and the like. On projects and longer hikes, I pack my second cam (and its accessories) as well.

When I do not have a pack on my back (or in the car), I take my F717 (Sony). I use it as a general walk-around camera and, sometimes, as a welcome diversion from the slow and cumbersome world of DSLRs.

Implants include a phonecam and up to three bags of other stuff dependent on the misson.

I don't take the 10D everywhere unless I'm going on a DPC meet or vacation or on a specific outing for photography. Otherwise, I'm sans camera. I should take my F717 or at the least the S230 from work since it's so tiny. Right now it's very hot (90+) so I don't want to leave my 10D and accessories in the car to bake and/or get stolen.

Time to change my approach
I rarely have mine with me. Not devoting enough time to my hobby!
So damn afraid of getting my Rebel swiped!

I would love to be able to have my camera with me all the time, however I commute to & from work on my push bike & my camera takes too much space in my day bag. I am also concerned that if I come off my bike for any reason (which does happen occasionally) then I would damage my camera or possibly myself.
Anyone got any suggestions how I could carry Camera safely on my Bike?

Never. I don't think a snapshop is worth the chance of breaking or someone stealing my gear. Esp when there's no hope of replacing it.

Enjoy things in the moment; not everything needs it's picture taken.

After reading all these answers, I'm tempted to always bring mine. But as of today, I only bring it along when I expect to take pictures. It is a bit bulky, maybe I should bring my small coolpix along everyday.

I carry my gear with me most places I go. Sometimes it really pays off. This shot for example won a National Geographic contest and the prize was a shiny new digital rebel :)

Up until very recently I carried my camera everywhere I went. Now I'm sitting here wanting to CRY! I'm the first to admit I am not a Bush supporter in the upcoming election but I just blew my chance by not having my camera with me. I went for a walk and the weather here is pretty ugly and threatening rain (possibly the norther outer rings of Frances) so I opted to leave everything including my little fuji at home.

When I got downtown I found out a small empty store is being taken over by the Republician Party for its local headquarters for the upcoming election and they were having a ribbon cutting ceremony. There it was right in front of me a fantastic photojournalism moment and what could I do. Not a darn thing except sigh and want to kick myself in the butt...lol

Alright... here's a question for the dslr users, especially 300D-
How do you carry your cam with you all the time? What do you carry with it (i.e. lens)? And lastly, what kind of bag do you have when you take your cam with you everywhere?

I would love to take my Precious with me everywhere as I see cool stuff all the time that are never there when I come back with my cam. Some help would be great!

Hey Rooster,

As I am formerly a 300D owner I might be able to offer up some assistance!
First, I only owned the kit lens so I just kept it on the camera at all times. Second, I carried two cards [but the smart thing is probably leave one at home, no point getting EVERYTHING stolen]. I also carried a flash and battery pack but that's not necessary. I used an Optra large bag [about $60CND] which had lots of room and LOTS of padding.

i carry my 300d in my bike messenger bag. usually with the 50mm 1.8 lens attached. then i just find some cushioning stuff to surround the rest of the lenses. if im gonna be taking my tripod, i can squeeze the tripod into a bookbag of mine, and put the 300d in the corner of the bag. i dont like carrying my lowepro bag, makes me too much of a target.

I've started carrying my gear more often. Right now my "travel" rig is my D70 body, 18-70mm lens, and the 70-300. I carry a 256 card in the camera. Plus my shoot notes, pen and lenspen. All of it goes into a Tamrac Velocity Slingpack 7. This is small enough that it doesn't scream, "CAMERA!" It's also professional enough looking that I don't get hassled while walking around.

I just recently bought my camera, and I was carrying it with me everywhere, but now it is in the possession of UPS, on the way back to the place I bought it from.

I had an idea for the backlighting contest, and when I turned the camera on, nothing happened. After a few tries it finally went on, but nothing worked. Then it said, "Memory Card Error." I had a Sandisk Ultra II 512MB card in it. When I put the original Canon card in, the same thing happened. So I decided to exchange the camera and the Sandisk card (bought from two separate internet sites).

I bring this up in this thread because there is a lot of talk here about bringing your camera out in the heat. I live in Florida, where, I'm sure a few of you know, it's very hot and humid. Could this have been the cause? I don't leave the camera in the parked car, but going in and out of the car, and air-conditioned areas may have caused this. It looks like from some of the posts, I should get myself a cooler and keep it in the car. Is it safe then to leave it in the parked car if it is in a cooler?

I hope no one from the places I bought my stuff from is lurking here, and says, "hey, it was his fault, don't give him an exchange!"

Thank you, and good luck to everyone in the framing contest. Only a few more minutes to the results.

Stupid question, but how will a cooler help protect from the heat? It has no source of cool air on its own unless you place something in there to cool the air like Blue Ice or the like. But if you do that, then you run the chance of condensation on your equipment. Can someone help me with this idea?

Reviving a really old thread...

I travel weekly to who-knows-where (east coast, west coast, where ever) and I always bring most of my gear with me. At least a subset of my gear.

Besides my roll-a-board suitcase, I have the Lowepro CompuDaypack where I carry my laptop (and its accessories) along with my Canon EOS 40D, 28-135 EF IS and 70-300 EF IS lenses, Vivitar Thyristor 2800 external flash, Cokin filter system with two adapter rings, battery charger, and extra battery.

If I know I'm going to have time to shoot some planned shots, I'll carry-on my tripod (in a drawstring bag with shoulder strap).

There were couple of times I didn't bring my gear with me and I really felt "naked" with out it. You never know, especially being in another city, when a photo op presents itself! :-)
