Oy.. All I have to say is that it's been *EXTREMELY* tough for me to decide which direction to go in submitting to this challenge.

I think I made the right choice.. but we'll have to see.

Anyway, good luck to everyone that has entered, only one and a half more days to go for submissions, but I'm officially done. Finally.

Maybe...

It's good to be ... ehh... sure.. kinda...

I'm definately done for this one!
I know I haven't been to all places worthy of this shooting yet, but I really love the photo I submitted, so...

Anyway, good luck to you too!

I have a question, and didn't want to start a new thread on it.

Do you all think that a photo in a travel guide has to be in color?
09/05/2004 05:11:35 AM · #4
I don't think so. I've noticed lots of wonderful black and white pictures in city guides. They usually involve something historic. I've seen some wonderful pictures of snowed out forest in black and white as well. I think a black and white picture would do okay in the challenge if the subject is interesting enough. There certainly isn't a statement about that in the challenge description so people will probably not deduct points for it, especially if it's good. Good luck deciding.

Hmmm,
I carefully planned my submission.
Took a photo that IS in every travel guide.
Found the perfect place, perfect time, perfect lighting.

The outcome can go directly into the next travel guide, but it is SOOOOOOO boring....

I've seen this shot maybe 1000 times, everytime the same shot, and mine is no different... Would that be a compliment to myself? :)

Well let's hope that you people are impressed with my boring shot...

For me it has to be in colour.
We humans are attached to colour in different ways but we all(rather most of us) enjoy it. One of the things I really like about my country is the colours and I would not like to see a B&W picture promoting it. I have been back home just once in 5years and the first thing I noticed was the vibrant colours.

I love B&W and I love the process of creating them in the Darkroom. But for this challenge, I would go with colour. Having said all that, it might even boil down to what you are planning to submit. But, colours do touch your emotions.

I don't think it should be in colors, but when posting a b/w photo bare the challenge wording in mind: Take an image that represents an area as a visitor might see it

If you think you answer this in b/w - then your submission is great!

Well, I'm no expert. Only posted 3 submissions so far, and none has ended yet, but I feel that a submission should be a photo YOU'RE happy with. If you are not sure with your photo, why would you expect others to like it better in aspects of the challenge?

But if you answer the challenge and you think your photo is good - then you should be happy about it, and not feel it's boring.

'cmon, no parent has ever seen his kid's role in the school play and felt it was boring...

the "take an image that represents an area as a visitor might see it" was the hardest part of this challenge for me.. *AS* a visitor to other places, I tend to be fascinated by things that *most* touristy type people aren't.. or couldn't care less about. I tried to look at it through a tourist's eyes while walking around town.. but I couldn't do it. Everything I shot with that in mind was so mind-numbingly boring.. so, I decided to post something I shot that *I* would love to look at as a tourist.. and if it doesn't fit most people's ideas of the challenge.. that's fine. I'll take that hit.. because a mind-numbingly boring regular tourist picture would make *me* feel bad, and that's not what this is about for me :)

Having said that.. I'm suddenly coming up with a few ideas that would have given me a chance to showcase a little creativity as well as take the scoring hit.. but it's a little late for them now :)

I didn't enter this challenge - just didn't see anything that tripped my trigger. But I have to say that after voting, the photos submitted are some of the best I've seen in one collection. There's usually a handful of 1's but not this time. Lots of really good work. Good job to all of you who entered!
