Hi everyone! I am looking to buying my first ever tripod. I guess i want something medium sized, light, portable and sturdy... and easy to use with my G5 and possibly any future cameras I will be upgrading to. Any suggestions? Thanks.
PS. My budget is for something less than $50

| This is probably not the reply you are looking for, but I will throw it in anyway. FLEA MARKET! I find one or two everytime I go, and If they don't work for every camera, oh well, it was only $5.00. |

There are just too many $50 area brands and styles to actually recommend anything.. but I'm with dartompkins.. hit up some flea markets or pawn shops or the like in your area. Bring your camera.. have a gander.
Try out stores like Target, Wal-Mart and the like.. they usually have some low-mid range tripods in the electronics/photo departments that would do well for what you're looking for.

Hi Nick,
I picked up a Vivitar VPT10 for $20 and used it for my Fuji3800. It was cheep, small (folds down to about 13"), and light. Now its not stong enough for my D70 but makes a great remote Flash stand for my SB-600 speedlight so I still use it.
For my D70 I picked up a Manfrotto and I find it great for the price.

When I had my G5, I bought a Slik tripod, it was about $30 and works just fine for the G5, but it's a bit flimsy for the 10D. I bought a Manfrotto 3001Pro for that and it's a great tripod but out of your price range. |

If you plan on having a point and shoot only then the cheaper tripods are more than enough. However if you plan on eventually upgrading to a DSLR then you'll need to think about getting a sturdier tripod. And these usually are relatively expensive.

I like the ball head and it support upto 8lbs.
Also its compact enough to carry around for day hikes. |
