I'm looking for a flash that is good for large portrait shots. Does anyone use this flash? If so, is it a good flash for large group shots? Currently I have the Canon 420EX. Will I see a big difference with the 480EG?

From the description on that website, I don't think that the flash will work on the 300D. It's a TTL flash, the 300D only supports E-TTL.
For large groups, you're better off using a diffuser and a more powerful flash, such as the 550EX. With the 550EX you can also use it to trigger your 420EX which may help in large group shots.

This flash is awsome, and way way more powerful than the 550EX, as sor metering, well you can still do metering in TTL mode.
