Is there a way to reset the counter on a Rebel (# of pictures taken TOTAL)? I just got mine and it started at 2800. The camera is brand new but the Flash card I used it on my last camera. I tried a few things without success...

The card is counting images written on it. Not total exposures of the camera.

I regulary switch between two different CF cards, and use both cards interchangeably between two different cameras. Neither camera has ever gotten confused over its "own" counter... that information is stored in the camera, not on the card.

So... to me, it sounds like someone has taken 2800 picures with your brand new camera.

There is a "hack" out there that adds features to the 300D, maybe the guy that does that also has something for reseting the counter....

I´m 99% sure it´s the card. darix said that the card was use for his older camera. There has also been other threads dealing with this.
I also once used a memory card from friend of mine and then the numbers on the images were different from the once I shot on my card.

Hmm... perhaps we are talking about two different things?

I've never really noticed a "counter" other than the "image number" of the pictures I pull off my card. The image numbers that I get are up in the 8700 range right now for my rebel, but the same card put into my S50 gives me image numbers much lower.

I'm pretty sure it's the card also. If someone used the camera 2800 times, they did use it with white gloves all the time... Seriously it is new without a doubt. It is probably the card because I have 2 different cards, one giving me 2700 photos, the other ones giving me 2900 photos.

When I got my 300D I used a CF from my A70 with images still on, and it made the numbers jump.

Thanks. That's exactly what happened as well.
