If I were to photograph a portion of someone elses art, such as a sculpture, would I be in danger of being disqualified from a challenge.

The item that I have in mind would probably not even be recognizable as the same item the artist intended. Sorry I can't be more specific without giving it away. I also have permission from the artist to use a photograph derived from the artist work in contests if copyright is an issue.

Feedback please

I can't give you a definite answer but from I've seen up to now here, it's not a problem at all.

Shoot away!

I don't think that there's a problem with photographing monuments, but with paintings there could be.

Not a painting. More like sculpture.

Rules state: "Artwork. Literal photographic representations of the entirety of existing works of art (including your own) are not considered acceptable submissions, however creative depictions or interpretations are permissible. This includes, but is not limited to paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, and computer artwork."

There have been some niosy DQs of artwork. Search the forum threads and you'll find them.

The key is to add "your" photographic touch to the subject. A snapshot of a statue is a picture of someone elses art.

Lighting, Angle, and/or dimension are the difference between a flat snapshot and artistic rendition of the subject.

I've been wondering about that as well. My thought for "travel guides" might violate the art rule....

I've had the same concerns in the past also. I have seen photos of sculptures on DPC but not of painting and such. I wanted to enter this for the WORD challenge but didn't know if it was allowed or not.
