My friend uses his Apple Ipod (£250) and Belkin Media Reader (£80) to temporarily store large numbers of RAW images whilst out and about, costing him around £330.

Rather than shopping around, are there any alternative products which are both cheaper and versatile?

Thanks in advance,
Terry W.

How does he get the shots from his camera to the ipod? It's an interesting idea that I could do with using :)

Unsure to be honest Ben. I assume this is a simple transfer option via USB? Y/N?

I just picked up an X's-Drive Pro from Ebay. While it earns pretty low marks for quality and useability, it's cheap and I like the fact that I can put whatever size hard drive I want in it. Probably not a long term, permanent solution for the professional photographer, but for me it gets the job done.

You have to use the Belkin media reader which attaches to the iPod. You then plug in whatever media (compactflash etc.) you use to the reader and then instruct iPod to download your shots (menu/extras). You then plug in your iPod to your computer (firewire) which (at least the Mac, not sure about PCs) will automatically download the photographs. This is very handy to use if you are in the field and are taking lots of shots.
