i was wondering if this was true i heard it from a guy at a camera store. he said 10D and the rebel have the same guts but the rebel has some features that are blocked. he also said you can download something to open the blocked features. is this true?

Yup. A russian hacker named Wasia has unlocked quite a few features. And there are quite a few of us using the hacked firmware.

well not exactly, the 10D also has a metal weatherproof body + vertical shooting controls (which I've compensated for by purchasing the battery grip).

the buffer speed on the 10D is also faster than the one on the 300D...which leads me to believe that the processor is more powerful.

What about shutter life expectancy, whatever it's called...isn't it much lower on the rebel?

well there are "rumours" that the shutter life expectency for the 300D was 10K...well I'm at 18K... and mechanicaly both the 10d and the 300d are the same.

There is no "official" count on life expectancy. but it makes no sense to me that a shutter would last less than 200K.
