A quick question:
I recently did a photoshoot for a local recording artist, and he was impressed enough with the result that he wants to use my work in his soon to be released CD, as well as the web site he's having designed to promote himself.
I know him fairly well, and I was originally going to not charge him for this service, but he insists that this can be written into the production costs. How much is something like that worth? I'm totally lost, as I have never intended to be paid for my work, but now someone actually WANTS to pay me.
Any insights are appreciated...

somewhere between 50$ and 50000000000$.... it's absolutly impossible to answer this question...Think about it, his he self promoting or signed to Sony international (which would take care of that aspect).
I've done shots for beer and have done shots for 5000$....for the same client...
everything is about notoriety.

As a starting point, guestimate how many hours you will spend on the project then multiply that by your day-job rate. |

Hey, thanks for all the advice. I never expected it to be a paying gig, and he's an indie artist, so no Sony execs (although he did get a sizable grant from the Arts Council here in Ontario).
So, I guess then the going rate is somewhere between 50 and 750 dollars. *chuckle*
Well, maybe I'll do it for the cost of a new macro lens. :) |

First, think how much you want. Second think how much he has got. Third charge around that.
Easy peasy pudding and pie.

I've taken shots of beer, and get paid in photography equipment. I get to drink the beer after I'm done. I love photographing those 50L kegs. Party at my house!
Now that rocks! Somehow I have to convince them that I need to upgrade to the 20D. LOL!
