Has this happened to anyone... I'm really worried about this

I bought a off-camera shoe cord and tried it with a Sunpak "digital flash" that says it is safe for all cameras. I was thinking of buying a Speedlite or some other EOS-dedicated flash but I just wanted to test my new shoe-cord and see if/how it works....

anyways since I did this, it seems that my on-camera flash has ceased to function!! It doesn't pop up in automatic mode, and when I press the "flash button" in manual mode, nothing happens. It does NOT pop up.

I have used non-Canon dedicated flashes in the hot shoe before, briefly, and nothing bad happened...

Did I fry the circuit... how bad is this?

Can I just use the off-camera shoe cord with a EOS dedicated flash... will that work, or ... basically I am very worried and do not know what to do and I do not have time to send the camera away to Canon to look at it, as I have things booked for clients that I have to photograph... :(

ayyyyyyyy what to do!?!?!

By adding the shoe flash it may of automatically dissabled the auto flash for your built in flash.. try to check in the menu/settings and see if the internal flash has been dissabled, When i owned the Sony F828 I had to manually enable the shoe before it would work then the internal flash did not function until i set it back.. just an idea hope it helps..

Nope I looked through my settings and didn't see anything like this.

The thing is that i used other flashes in the hot shoe before with no problems....

This really isn't that big of a deal because I am planning on getting an external flash and bracket for off-camera lighting but, i just want to make sure that, if i just leave this as is, it won't kill my Rebel :(

yeah... and before i found this "fix", i called up Canon and of course they said my camera needs servicing and told me to mail it in to them, and of course that probably would have taken months and who knows how much it would cost.

Took about 1 minute to fix, and it was free.

..eep!...thanks much for the info!...that had actually happened to me once when my batteries were somewhat low and I had thought it was due to that...but lo and behold I had actually taken off my flash unit about 10 minutes previous to the 'malfunction' and it was frustrating because i had just needed a smidgeon of fill flash for a quick shot and didn't want to bring out the external again but had to anyway since the pop up never worked. I think, however, that when I removed the external the 2nd time it must have popped the pins back up again because the popupflash worked fine again afterwards...anyhow now it all makes sense! :)
