This spider was quite friendly when I approached him with my close-up filters and teleconverter... found him Sunday morning on a big rock on the beach at Newfound Lake in Bridgewater, NH.
To give a sense of scale, his legs spanned about three inches.

I'm not entirely sure, it might have been a female. I'll post here when I find out. :D
Maybe I should add Arachnid Natural-Light Portraiture to my portfolio. :)

Okay, after looking at some websites, it's indeed a male, judging from the swollen ends of the pedipalps at the front.
Now, I just need to figure out what species it is...

Jacko came to mind while I was shooting this one. Unfortunately I didn't have the equipment with me to get a Jacko quality shot.

Ah,Yes, A bug thread...
**Goes out to get a few cans of raid and a flyswatter.**
Beware spiders that can challenge you to thumb-wrestling. Three inches. Sheesh.

I got some shots of a dragonfly that landed on my girlfriend's knee and head while we were out on the lake, but they came out rather blurry (I didn't have my macro setup along with me, as I was standing waist-deep in water).
My girl was rather patient with not swatting the 4+ inch long insect away, but sadly, all the effort was in vain. :)
