I took this picture yesterday, but I thought the sky would look better if it had more blue, to create more contrast in the photo... so I tried...

But now I'm not sure I like it better... can I get some opinions on which one YOU like better? Thanks in advance!

Hi Lori. I like the first one better. The sky in the second one seems a little artifical to me...like it has too much magenta in it...? I think somewhere inbetween these two images would look very nice. I love the architecture. It's a really cool building! Nice work.

Edit:

I hope you don't mind that I played with it a bit. This is sort of what I was thinking:

I took a shot too Lori, adjusting color balance and saturation using Curves and then removing noise. The bluing of the sky still looks a little too much for me.

Thank you both! I think I'll play with the first one some more and do something along the lines of what you suggested. :) I appreciate your help and comments!

I really like both of your two edits, Lori. The first one has a nice light feel, but the deep purply blue of the second also adds to the shot. I think if I had to choose between them I'd go for the first, because the second is maybe slightly unbalanced?

Thanks, Paul! :)

I like the top one. I think the second one's sky is too distracting from the point of interest, the church.

I like strangeghost's attempt most. it gets rid of many of the ugly mid-tones in the image.

No offence to strangehost - but I don't. That one has too much contrast for my taste.

I like #1 so far but agree with Lori's plan to play with the sky a bit.

Oh, I agree. Not knowing what color the building actually was, I just set it as my white point in curves. I got the white building, but at the cost of a fairly harsh presentation for the whole image. Looking over the original images, I'm pretty sure the building was more of an eggshell or even beige. If I was processing the image, I'd still stick with curves for my first go at adjusting the overall balance of the shot, but I'd do a few more tweaks besides.

OK, just for fun, here's another go, curves only, this time trying for more of a beige building:

The church was actually white. I guess I thought the bluer sky made the church more the true white color. The only thing that I'm not sure about with John's edit is how dark the walkway in between the arches and the doors is... but the more I look at it, the more I like it. John, thank you, you've now inspired me to work on the colors. I'll post my final product... I really appreciate all the comments!

Well, is this a good happy medium between the two? Thanks in advance. :)
