I am really bummed. The first day of our vacation last week in Cape Cod, my Canon G2 lens would not extend. It just moves a little, and then doesn't come out. So I lost my whole week of vacation picture taking. And the house we rented had a bad phone, so I could not even get on dpChallenge to post to see if anyone had seen this problem and new of a special fix or "reset".
I almost always shoot with a filter and the lensmate attachment, and so I don't think it's dirt in the lens--however, the day it happened, I was in a terrible sand storm (first visit to the beach in cape cod). I did have the camera out, but again, the lens had a lens filter and the lens mate on, so no sand could get to the lens or the surrounding area. And it doesn't make any grinding noises. Just the usual whir, but no lens extension.
7 days of beautiful beaches and weather, and I only took 1 picture! ARGHHHH.
Any thoughts ideas, knowledge of warranty (my camera's about 2.5 years old), cost of repair, etc. would be welcome.
Regards--Neil |

Other than taking it in for repair by Canon, I have only one solution,, and it involves a big hammer. It'll either fix it or, you'll wind up camera shopping.... Usually, my experience has been the latter, but it might be worth a last shot once all else has been tried.

Have you tried taking the batteries out and inserting back in? Sometimes it cures problems. Make sure the date is correct before taking challenge shots. |

Yes, doesn't work. Tried even for a day, didn't help. Is there a reset somewhere? |

I had this problem with my Olympus once and it was dirt/sand around the lens. I wiped everything off and blew compressed air all around the outside of the lens and that cleared it up. Good luck!
