Hello.
I have a brand new 49mm Hoya Infrared R72 filter I bought a few months ago for the DiMage7i, but the camera doesn't do IR so I'm selling the filter. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Can't you use it on your 300D?

The 300D (and 10D, etc) has an IR removal filter on the sensor, so it won't work.

Paul, see this thread and this thread; I think some people are having some success, especially when you realize that the lens can also make a difference.

My smallest lens takes 52mm filters and I don't like to step down

It works pretty nicely on my 10d with the Canon 28-105mm USM lens as well as the Sigma 105mm Macro lens and the Canon 75-300mm AF Lens. Please note that you do have to do long exposures (we're talking 20-30 seconds in daylight at f8 on iso100).

Strange that it works, I suppose..

Yeah, I bought my filter on a whim and it ended up working out so I'm happy. Here are a couple of my first shots with it:

One thing that's a bit problematic is that due to the long exposures, clouds move and look a bit odd and if it's windy, trees will shake and become blurred.

As far as I know, any digital camera has an IR removal filter because the sensors are so sensitive to IR and IR would degrade the picture of the visible light.

I think it depends on the quality of the IR removal filter (as well as other factors , like the lens) whether it still lets enough light pass to make IR pictures with the camera. The quality of the filter on 300D might be so good that it does not do IR well.

Some camera's, like my Sony, allow you to remove the filter by a simple switch (nightshot mode) and then the camera becomes extremely sensitive to IR light. Put on a filter which removes visible light (called IR filter) and put on a neutral density filter (because of limited shutterspeeds in nightshot mode) and you can make perfect IR shots during daytime.

Interesting site. I'd never heard of the Eye Controlled Focus feature. I wonder if the list of "compatible models" on that page is a mistake.
