what is burning and dodging and does ps element 2.0 have it?

i should know this but i'm new

Burning is a process used to make a part of your subject darker.
Dodging is a process used to make a part of your subject lighter.

Both process can be used together to add contrast to an otherwise normal scene.

A great example of burning is emphasize a scene would be:

by heida.

She used burning to make the skies even more dramatic then it was when she took the picture.


I used quite a bit of both techniques for this composition.

while we are on this topic, what techniques do you all use to dodge and burn , every time I try it seems obvious, this looks splotchy. How do you get it so it is not so obvious?
