They could have been suggested before, but...
How about putting the member status icon/button (turns from gray to yellow when user is online) next to a user's name in the forums?
For the member challenges, I would like to be able to read the rules of the challenge even though I'm not a member.

Click the word Challenges in the menu bar at the top of any page and you can read the challenge description. I don't know if any extra rules are shown there or not.
The rules for the member challenges are the advanced editing rules, and should be available to you.
