... I need them, despite my already having received almost 40% more votes and views (wonder what causes such a gap?) Sure would rather have vote quality than quantity though :)

Uh, what causes such a gap is that I was looking at my Neon scoring instead of my Botany scoring ... duh. My actual Botany vote/view/comment count is very much in line with others:

I definitely should have gone with a macro. I've been told that my photo doesn't meet the challenge, but I honestly think it couldn't meet the challenge more...it has botany in it, it just isn't a macro. grr.
