VERY new to photography. I have allways been interested, but never had the chance. Well, I went ahead and ordered a 300d and it came 3 days ago.

There were tornado warnings, so I decided to go up to a hill and see if there was anything interesting. Nothing really, but I did manage a lightining snag by just using the burst mode after I saw one strike. Also got a seagull in flight. The gull is my fav so far. I only adjusted the contrast/brightness/saturation on these pics too. No other digital manipulation.

Today poured all day and the sky went crazy with color, but I got a late start when I realized it. I managed a few, but I dont have a tripod yet and the shutter was staying open and I couldn't really hold it still enough.

On to the pics! (i'm looking for hosting now too...)

I'm really happy with the camera, and look forward to really learning how to use it!

Imageshack seems pretty good for free one-off hosting. I think you can get accounts too.

I like the seagull picture. What lens were you using? What lenses did you get with your new 300d?

Just the 18-55 that comes with the kit. Just put it on the sports mode and shot as it was coming right at me (dont know why it decided to do this...)

I've been researching like crazy and have two more coming:
Canon Ef 50mm 1.8
tamron 70-300mm

Along with circular polarizing filters. Those two lenses should definatly get me some better shots.

longlivenyhc; thanks! I was supprised too, I actually got 3 more, but they were pretty out of focus and not as clear as that one.

I am actually looking at surpasshosting.com Pricing seems good, and the ping/traceroute to their web page are good, and close to highspeed rings. I dont want them to host the DNS though, just the web site.

I like the seagull as well, nice catch.

PhotoBucket is a free image hosting site that works well when posting to forums and such as it allows direct linking. It is a good place to start until you know what features you are going to need or want.

I'll tell you this much... you'll *love* what a 300mm lens feels like on your new camera. With the crop factor, it's like using a 480mm lens. I swear it feels like you can just reach out and touch things!

I have the Canon 50mm 1.8 and love it also. I used it at a wedding recently and found that with a wide open aperature I was able to shoot things at 1/60th of a second that my other lenses would have required either 1/15th or else a flash. Plus, it results in a shallow DOF that really worked quite well for the pictures I was taking.

i also have the kit lens, canon EF 50mm 1.8 (i love it), and the canon 75-300mm non IS lens(which i love too). cool seagull pic, i usually have to chase after them to get a decent shot.

The gull is just beautiful. Good luck with your learning and having fun with it! BTW, I got a lot of pop-ups when I clicked on your links; it will be great when you are set up with a good service, too!

No pop-ups here...but then I'm using Safari on a Mac which has a built-in pop-up blocker. :)

Yea, my temp space there has at least one popup I know off. I get one and I'm using the google bar.

I can't wait to put up the unmolested version (reduced quality for file size) of the gull :)
