Printers use dots/inch. Photoshop uses pixels/inch. Are dots and pixels the same size?
Whats the optimal pixel/inch value for printing? |

300 DPI. The higher the count the smaller your image will be when printed.

| The "optimal" value depends on: the output/printing device; the print size; viewing conditions/distance; and other brutal details. Some devices print at varying/strange resolutions (254dpi with LaserLabs, Lambdas at 200dpi, Noritsus at 400dpi). For example, a 4x6 at 150dpi will almost certainly look horrible (but this is somewhat subjective). An 8x10 is probably average looking at 200dpi. A 20x30" print at 300dpi is probably overkill, depending on viewing distance. Shadowy light can hide detail loss in low resolution prints. |
