I'm shopping for a camera and a under water housing for my kayak club. It will be a club camera so it doesn't have to be too fancy since most of the people in the club are point and shooters. My budget is $500.
I'm looking at the Canon A75 and housing (WP-DC30) which will run me about $400 total. NIMH batteries and a bigger memory card will get me close to my $500 budget.

Any other good options in this catagory, or any advice? 3MP, 3X optical zoom and a sports mode like the A75 has is what I'm looking for.

thanks

I don't know much about underwater housing, can it fit many small cameras or is it made for just the A75?

I think you are on the right track. The Canon digital point and shoot cameras take pretty nice photos and Canon manufactures some pretty nice enclosures.

My next camera-related purchase will be the Ikelite Underwater Camera Housing for my 10D and a couple of underwater strobes. It's not gonna be cheap, but it'll be worth it.

Take a look at Adorama's selection of underwater enclosures.

Canon makes under water housing for just about every camera the make. They are mostly camera specific, but some will fiy two or three different cameras.

For the purpose, I'm confident the A75 will be fine and it comes in under budget. I'm just curious if maybe there is something else that might be better.
