| ok, well.. I have been trying to take some decent pictures against a WHITE background...but, It doesnt turn out white... it turns out a dingy orangish color..what am I doing wrong? also..which type of lighting should I be using ?? here is what I end up with //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=58456 |

Looks like you need to set your white balance to incandescent.

what kind of lights are you using? Does your camera have different white balance settings?

I don't know anything about your camera but a lot of digital cameras can have a white balance problem. Go to the link below, it may help.

I dont have "incandescent"
my camera has... Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Flourecent, Flourecent H, and Custom
it is a Canon Powershot A60. |

| I believe the kind of light I am using is a "halogen" I could be wrong tho.. |

Try setting your white balance to Tungsten. The link I posted shows the difference between auto and tungsten.
Auto on the left / Tungsten on the right.

| yeah, I seen that...it sort of looks black and white tho, will the main colors still show up in tungsten mode? |

The tunsten white balace setting just teels the camera to remove the orange cast that is caused by tungsten (incansescant) lighting. The colors should be fine - and more like the real colors. Your eye has a built-in computer that does the same thing automatically - so you never notice the orange light.
