I found one in the local pawn shop with a film Reble body. I have a couple of questions about it...

1) Is it sharper than the DRebel kit lens?

2) Is it worth $139 (the price they are charging for camera and lens)?

3) Do you have any shots you can post up as example results?

I know it's not very fast, but I'm not happy with the sharpness of the kit lens anymore and can't find the 50mm f1.8 locally...

Ron,

What is it about this lense that you find appealing? The focal range is not adequate, the f/stops are slow. A single focal 50mm f/1.8 would give better pictures and only require a few steps forward or back for the same focal range and less money. No offense intended, just not sure what the appeal is?

{ron....cameramart is on telegraph just south of waterford. give them a try. www.cameramart.com I think. just do a search for cameramart and you will get their home page....I've spent thousands there....meaning they are a fair place to do business - same prices as B&H but local...for me}

I was just looking for input! If it is considerably more sharp than the kit lens and $139 is a good price then it would give me a little more flexibility than the 50 f1.8 and I could pick it up tomorrow. I will definatly check out the site suggested though as I could drive there tomorrow!

The cameramart link you show is for a place in Baltimore. A little out of my way...

TooCool, I have that lens, from a film Rebel that's about 12 years old. I also have the 50mm 1.8. There is no comparison; the 50mm is the superior lens. That said, you CAN coax a good picture out of the 35-80. In fact, my highest score came on a damselfly shot for the Blue challenge. It's not even a macro lens!

I think the lens alone is worth about $50 or $60. I kept mine until I get something with a bit more range (I'm looking at the Sigma 18-125, the Sigma 55-200, or the Sigma 70-300 right now becuase that's what I can afford).

That's the kind of info I was looking for! Now if I can find a link for this cameramart in detroit...
