I had a similar experience back in January or thereabouts when I was under suspicion of altering Exif data on my "viewpoint" submission "Picture Window". It took me several days of investigation before I found what the problem was... and it was a simple matter of rotating the image from my card reader before saving it. Apparently this was altering some of the Exif data (No thumbnail image accompanying my original.) Needless to say, I have stopped rotating images until they are saved and in the system and I have also downloaded "Exifer" to ensure that all the data is intact before submission.
However, it does show that images can be altered and data lost through simple acts and without malicious intent.

Yes, but in the programme I was using..the part where the thumbnail should be was substituted by some other info and I was totally unaware that anything was wrong.
