best idea ive seen is to make speed challenges every weekend or every other weekend and have a 4 day voting period for them.

I agree in a way, a third challenge would be a good addition.

Speed challenges are fun and special because they are unpredictable. I would like to see them a bit more freaquently, but not terribly so. Having them every weekend would destroy their enjoyment, they would become simply 'the weekend challenge' instead of as a speed challenge.

Yes, I would like to see them a bit more often, once a month would be good (there have only been two since February this year), but I can't see the damage of letting people know when they will happen at least a week prior they happen and then it would be more chance to shorten them down to 24hr. 48hr isn't that much different from the current week challenges, it's just too long time to be called a "speed" challenge imo.
You're right that once a week would be too much for a speed challenge, but a third weekly challenge (members only) as I suggested earlier, held at weekends, with 4 days voting period (mon-thu) would be a great addition imo also.
I like the idea of the whole month "free study" challenges a lot, but I would like to see them for all of the months, not only every three months as it has been in the past. At least in these challenges some people don't have to worry about a lack of topics ideas. If there is a pattern for the free study challenges, there should be a "fall" challenge next month, in September, the last three were held in June (summer), March (spring) and December (winter).

[quote=G4Ds] [quote=moodville] I'd be curious to know if adding another My only concern would be that the 300 people found the time to enter both challenges and now there is 600 images to vote on:)
I agree
but would like the days shorter.

Wouldn't there be less comments per photo? |

I would say not necessarily, there would probably be less entries in each challenge, and then maybe more comments in average. Also there would be more people becoming members and the site would maybe become even more popular, I would say the site is in need to expand and have more challenges. When there are 250-400 photos in a challenge, it's a lot and maybe becoming just to many photos as it is a lot of work voting for all of the photos.
But I or anyone else can't really say what will happen, I think it would be worth the try and then after some period of time, then we could discuss if we want to get back to the 2 challenges per week or keep on with the changes (IMO that would be the case).

I checked with the Time People and they said that days will remain 24 hours long, even if we get a petition.
sorry, I tried.

Just my 2 cents..... How about 1 speed challenge per month or every 2nd month and judge it by speed judging eg: two days voting only. No need for comments as it would be just for the fun of it..

I'd like to see more speed challenges.
I guess we'd need an army of SC to wade thru all the DQ requests, etc if we had 4 + challenges going on all the time :P |

I think...oh, it hurts when you are getting older...that a Weekend Challenge is a great idea. If not every weekend, then every other weekend. At weekends I have some time to spare and, of course, there is no requirement to enter every challenge. I guess we all get very competitive when a challenge appears.
Anyway, those are my thoughts - what are? - okay just another intellectual interlude! |
