My entry in Blue Moon just got disqualifed :( I was just wondering how many others out there have been DQ'ed. I didn't think my photo was worthy of being DQ'ed but it has. I'm learning so I guess all is not lost lol |

I did not get DQ, but they did request my file even though I ended in 18th place. Someone must have questioned my sax, moon thing. Why was yours DQ? |

My photo was the abstract "whirly gig". They said it didn't conform to their rules but didn't give a specific reason why, ie what part of my editing was "illegal". I mean I came nearly last anyway so I'm not bothered about the pic, just curious for a specific reason why so I know in future. |

Wasn't that one done with just simple contrast adjustments over the entire image?

I had a request for my file on the very first entry i submited, no problem with it but what annoyed me was that you never get informed why?.
My only clue was in the comments that someone mentioned dodge & burning wasn't allowed. I pm the person about it but he couldn,t remember?. |

Yeah, that was basically all I did. I also added a 180 twirl effect. If that was why I was dq'ed I wish they would have told me instead of getting what seems like a stock standard response. No matter. |

I thank you. You see, I play sax and did it in Clubs for a while and so I decided to do a cabaret style. Ah, it got murdered with the first batch of voters who resented the moon. Well, a cabaret is known for such forms of tasteless expressions but it is the lighting that is cool. However, that has been my most ambitious shot to date in DPC. I had sensed its failure from a thread before the challenge where many grouped to express hatred for any shot with the moon in it. I love going against the grain. lol |

Yeah I think that would be it. I'm pretty sure your not allowed to use effects on the photo's.

It just would have been nice to have been told that in the DQ explanation!

Hehe, I was in on the anti-moon discussion... but at least for me it was all about people who didn't read the challenge description and posted a moon picture WITHOUT BLUE. :D |

Maybe it was from someone who lived in New York and did not remember it raining that week so they thought it was taken outside of the allowable dates?

Maybe. Still, I asked why I got a DQ and never found out the reason. I don't really care, but it's the first (and so far only) time I've gotten a DQ request.

I believe that the use of the twirl filter was considered "too much" moving of pixels, essentially creating a "major element" as opposed to just "cleaning up" unimportant elements. I thought it should be allowed myself, but it does push the boundaries of what's allowed within our rules here. Sorry, I like abstract-looking things like that : )
We normally don't tell people why a DQ is requested, but we do usually try to tell you why if the photo is actually DQ'd; sorry you just got a stock answer this time. |

Thank's GeneralE for taking the time to let me know what it was that I did wrong. My husband (pearcer) and I have been baffled but assumed it had something to do with the Twirl effect. I'm glad someone from admin got back to me. Thanks so much - Foxy x

Hi,
Sorry for the stock answer. We actually have a limited amount of space to work with when filling in the DQ reason, thus the stock answer (we usually quote the rules that resulted in the DQ).
GeneralE's assessment is essentially corrent, the "twirl" effect was the major action that led to the DQ.
Generally speaking, the intent of the Advanced Editing rules is to allow you to retouch your photograph to make it the best it can be. A majority of Site Council felt that your editing went beyond that and crossed the line from photo correction into digital art.
Hope this helps,
Terry

I almost got DQed but proved them wrong
The above is incorrect and was entered by my teenage son who made unauthorized comments(as mentioned in another post).
As a newbie, my first entry was DQ'd for a touchup clone (not a complete understanding of the rules at the time). The image remained on the screen a couple days after I submitted the original(which showed the blemish I cloned out, and I thought it was okay until I saw it deleted and recieved a council email.

I got disqualified, but it was because I was out of town and couldn't submit the original when they asked for it :P |

I got DQ'd once when I was out of town. As a precaution I sent the original to Konradoor before I left, but when I got back the picture was gone. No idea why.
Maybe he didn't get it. |

One of my photos is under investigation right now. I don't know why, other than a comment that someone made suggesting something appeared to be fake (it isn't). In any event, it shouldn't be a problem as I sent the original RAW file in for evidence and I DID follow all the rules of the challenge. Still, it's a little disturbing.
