I just wondered if anyone thought I chose the right shot for the Macro challenge. I struggled a bit, but do you think it should have been a clear cut decision?
Entered shot:
Alternative 1:
Alternative 2:
Thanks
Jon

I know I think you picked the right shot - I really had it pegged for a ribbon.

They are all nice, but I like alternate 2 best. Mainly because it's unique and diferent. |

I think alternate 1 is my favorite, I really like the shadows.
Having said that, they are all fantastic. |

I absolutely dig the entered photo. Love the contrast and i love the cloud in the background. Beautiful shots, all three, but I definitely dig the first one the most! Awesome!

As someone who really doesn't find "bug" shots very interesting or attractive, I thought your entry was pretty damn cool. I think it is heads above the alternates.
Edit: Typo as usual

I think you entered the best of them myself, although I also like alternate 1.
This, to me, was a ribbon winnning shot in many challenges, but I think the right shots got the actual ribbons in this one.
Great shot though!

i kinda like the second one, as the leaf kinda had that infinite down the highway feel....but i liked the cloud in the submitted one... |

Thanks for the kind feedback - and I have to say I was mainly torn between my entry and Alternative 2. |

Three great pics Jon and I`m not surprised that you were having problems choosing. I think you went with the right one..the cloud adds that little bit to the overall image.
I would like to have seen a version of alternate 1 where the angle was slightly different on the leaf so that you could see right to the end of the tapering leaf which would give the impression that it was reaching to the sky (a sort of vanishing point). This would look like the insect had a very long & hard road ahead.
Having said that...I have a feeling that there was a shot like that in a challenge some time back...so maybe that wouldn`t have been such an original idea. |
