my firewall occasionally picks up an outbound connection to PBASE
here is the description. curious what this is, and if anyone else has come across it. there is no application on my PC named OI, this is the 2nd or 3rd time i have created a rule to block it.

The user has created a rule to "block" communications
Outbound TCP connection
Remote address,service is (www.pbase.com(216.27.31.134),http(80))
Process name is "oï"

I'm looking for this "Process name is "oï" " thing
I can't find anything by that name

Can you give a list of running proccesses?

well - it wasn't a running process - but a request from PBASE

i can give a list if it's important - but i know there is nothing funky running - at least according to ctrl-alt-del - and the apps running there.

wondering if their server is sending odd requests to connected users.
had the firewall not picked it up - the request would have been granted.

This means the request originated from your PC. It's just as if you were using Internet Explorer to browse their website.

yeah - but the service originated from their IP
i don't have an OI of any sort on this machine.

maybe it's nothing - but i don't get any similar requests when browsing even questionable sites...

i had been looking at one of Gordons photos on Pbase

the service on port 80 is HTTP (WWW), the port you browse websites on. This seems like a normal Internet browsing request. The only thing that is a mystery is the oi process. It might depend on the firewall you have, as I am clueless as to what that is.

Also the process name is " oï " not " oi ", this may be an error, suggesting that the originating process may be the system.

the IP is pbases http IP @ port 80 - at least that's how i read it.
i run norton firewall 2004 - through norton internet security 2004.
