I went out and took some sunrise pictures this morning with my new(ish) Rebel.
All in all I took close to 200 shots.
When I went to review these pictures on the camera, I found there to be a period of about 20 minutes where there were no images of the pictures I took.
And when I downloaded them to my computer, they also didn't show up.
Also, the order that they show up on my camera, wasn't the order in which they were taken!
I used a data recovery program and it shows that they are on my memory card.

Has anyone else experienced weird things with their Rebel and memory cards, or is it just me?

The VERY first time I used my first CF card it crapped out because I didn't format it first.
Then, just last weekend during a wedding I had two cards [including that first one] crap out AGAIN because I didn't format them.
The lesson here? FORMAT.
Best to start fresh and just format the card [which deletes all the info] and remember to format every time you use them to be safe. |

What type of card are you using?
Nope, no problems here. I've shot 1398 photos so far (with the russian wasia firmware) and I've had no glitches or errors. I'm also using a 512MB LexarPro 40x card. |

I'm also using the hacked firmware and Lexar 40x 512MB cards... never had a problem in 5200 shots aside from Windows 2000 Pro corrupting the filesystem during the delayed-write period.

No, I have had this type of thing happen twice. But in both cases I blame my PC, not the camera.
What happened in my case is that I shot several images on a card, offloaded to PC, shot more images to the card (forgetting to format) and then when I offloaded to the PC the second time some of the images were missing, specifically all new images from the folder that existed on the previous offload. Any new images in new folders were OK, and old images in old folders were ok, but new images on existing folders were not accessable. But they were on the card (I had reviewed some of them) and they could be recovered using software to examine the raw contents of the card.
I don't know exactly what happened to cause this, but essentially when there is data on the card, but not being reported, the file allocation table is hosed up in some way. I am not sure how it happened though. I am careful to format between offloading now, and have not had a recurrence. This is also possibly just a quirk in the way I have my CF card reader set up as a shared device across a network, who knows. Anyway, just more information to ponder.

I've just recently had a similar problem where 7 images disappeared between taking a series of pics & downloading them. I've also recently had it "ERROR" on me a couple of times in the middle of a shoot. Turing the cam off & back on has cleared it. PQI 512 CF card by Samsung. I always download & then "delete all" through the camera controls after reloading the card. Could it be going bad? I have taken about 25,000 pics with it in the last 16 months.

This is exactly what I do.
