Does anyone out there know anything about stereo/3D photography? I already found the thread that Imagineer posted back in 2003 (that was slightly different); I am asking for my husband. He is interested in some of the old stereo cameras and viewers. The "Realist" format is one he has read up on, along with some others. Thanks to all for reading this and any information you might have!

Here is a link that points to several other links. I used the first in the list and started doing my own stereo photography.

Here's an example of one of my pictures.

I do occasional stereo photography, and all of mine is done manually, with no additional hardware than just my camera. Works very well. the Stereoscopy.com link should provide some great info. Encourage your husband to take a digital cam and just experiment, it's surprisingly easy to get good results. Viewing them is another matter, I don't use a viewer, I use the "cross-eyed" approach. Some folks have real trouble doing that, but once you master it, it gets easier and easier until you can do it at will.

The cross-eyed approach works for me .. but gives me a headache after awhile. I bought a pair of glasses (found via the stereoscopy site, if I remember right). They are just a cheap pair of plastic glasses, but the way they are made, makes it really easy to view stereoscopes. NOTE: These are NOT the blue/red colored glasses. They are clear glasses that just help you focus on a stereoscopic picture better.
