I recently came across a term which I must not be familiar with. Someone want to explain this to me? "Photographic Merit"

I had heard it before but wasn't sure so I "asked Jevees" and it came back with a bunch of "awards for photographic merit". I think it just means getting recognition for your work.

I always thought that it meant that a shot was good:

"This image has much photographic merit, thus it deserves the blue ribbon".

But hey, I'm just a crazy french Canadian, eh?
