How about this for those with low-end cameras like me who would like to get better macro magnification. The best my camera will do on macro mode is something like this...
....more like close-up than macro.
I thought for the MACROIV challenge I would try experimenting with my binoculars held up to the camera. The best results seem to be when a strongly lit (Anglepoise light is good) subject is placed 1-4cm away from the eyepiece of my binoculars (8X30) and then the camera (at full zoom and with the biggest F stop possible;f8.2 in my case) held up to the objective lens.
Here's a shot, 'Easier', that my wife vetoed as an entry: it's a bit oversharpened but perhaps shows what can be done.
I'd be interested in seeing the results of anyone else who wants to try this homemade approach! |

I'm a soft touch for flower pics but really think pic 1 would fair much better in Macro IV than the needle (close ups are acceptable). A much much better picture :)
As for using a low end camera, you take some excellent shots, its the fotog more than the cam that produce great pictures.

My MacroIV shot is through an old 8mm movie lens and loomed to eliminate the round shadow of the lens. It came out fairly well.
I have been doing this through my spotting scope for several years. See my portfolio under through my scope. I've also done some through a dissecting microscope too. Van. |
