This whole series was taken with that lens.

also

and about 3000 others...these ones were all taken over a range of light conditions and focal lengths. some were at 200mm others closer. shutter speeds as low as 1/30th are still sharp handheld, assuming the sunject isn't moving too much.

it's not cheap, but for what it's worth, it's really really good.

very impressive... thanks pedro

I have noticed some purple fringing on my 70-300mm F/4-5.7 D lens, occasionally when the conditions are ripe for it.. so I'm considering exchange in the future. Have you seen any of this on your 70-200 ? The shots look really sharp...

"Purple fringing" is the most common type of chromatic aberration in digital cameras. Edges of contrasty subjects suffer most, especially if the light comes from behind them. Chromatic aberrations occur more in consumer and prosumer digital compact cameras, but SLRs can suffer from it too.
They're caused by the camera lens not focusing different wavelengths of light onto the exact same focal plane (the focal length for different wavelengths is different). The amount of chromatic aberration depends on the dispersion of the glass.
I've never noticed it in this lens, but I did when i had the lens you are talking about. I took it back :)

One of my favorite photos that I have ever taken:

Post processing is my weakness, but, even with that, this isn't bad. By far, this is my best lens.
