Welcome, way to jump right in!

Just a thought (you will all probably yell at me for this) what if the administrators forced everyone that voted 3 or below to add a comment on why they voted so low on the photo. That way the people that need to know what they did wrong get some feed back?
(Please don't yell at me, it's just a thought)

Pearcer, the thought is good, but there are too many ways it can be circumvented or become a problem. People could end up leaving nonsense just to move to the next photo, or simply run out of constructive things to say. People who vote 1 or 2 are generally saying "this is not a valid challenge entry" so they assume they don't need to leave a comment, but often forget that the photo may be by a new person or be trying something that just wasn't apparent to them. Since voting is anonymous, not leaving a comment doesn't actually say "not a valid challenge entry," because we never know who votes what score.

People who vote 3 or 4 should really leave a comment, because those scores are so flexible: Did it meet the challenge but lack some photographic skill? Or not meet the challenge but knock your socks off? Or sort of meet the challenge, but it just didn't look great?

I do think the words "good" and "bad" in the voting should be removed. Unless we are going to have specific, defined rules for voting, the vote scale should just be "top" and "bottom."

(By "valid" I don't mean DQ terminology, but rather that the item is of unacceptable quality and does not meet the challenge)

I agree Summer (airatic), there are too many ways to circumvent my idea, I was trying to see if there is a way in which a bit more feed back can be generated. Just reading some of the threads, people would like to know why some people give them a high score 7 through to 10 and then they get some other scores in the 1's and 2's with no explaination. Personaly I'd like to know what was "wrong or right" with the shot that made the voters mark it so far down or up.
There are some really great photographers on this site and I would like to learn from their comments.
Cheers, Ross

Dipaulk, based on your comment, I think you might want to consider whether your criticism is coming off as patronizing or unclear, I have commented on many photos without an outpouring of negative feedback, and to recieve so many retaliatory responses suggests to me that you may inadvertently be producing non-constructive sounding comments.

I encourage you to keep commenting, and not be discouraged by what seem to be negative responses, since they clearly feel they recieved the same from you, perhaps you both are saying one thing but communicating something different.

I can't tell you why your photo got rated low but I can tell you because you see a photo on this web site it is not fair to judge a photo in a challenge low because you may have seen it somewhere else on this site.
