Do most of you use Photoshop for your images?

I bought Photoshop Elements 2.0 today (It can be returned unopened if necessary) and I'm beginning to realise that this might be a 'mini' version of the 'real' Photoshops (v. 7.0 and now v. CS). What say you?

Is this a good editing tool or should I be returning this?

I need your help...thanks for all your info!

It is the mimi version, but since I have the miniversion in my camera I figure I can limp along with the minisoftware too. I plan on using elements untill I can afford better glass, then a better body, then maybe the software can be upgraded.

I bought PSE2 a few weeks back, also, and am working on learning it. I use another right now for most everything, but you will love PSE2 as you get to know it. It can do 95% of the other PS's and costs a fraction of it. There are MANY threads here that you can find by searching that will give you tons of help and show you alternate ways of using PSE2 when it doesn't exactly match its big brothers. I would keep it if I were you, but I am sure you will get many responses giving you more help on the decision, too. Good luck, whatever you choose to do!

if you've never used Photoshop before, I would highly recommend using Elements for a while first. You won't need any of the CS features for some time yet, and you can upgrade to CS when you find that you outgrow Elements' capabilities.

unless of course you've got money to burn...

jazzmik...no, unfortunately not. lack of burnable money was the reason I went with Elements instead of the other one for 6 times the price.

Anyone else? What are you using, and will Elements work for me...should I open the box and start?

I think if you have no PS experience, then Elements will be a lot less intimidating. I use PS myself but that's 'cause I was able to get it at significant (student) discount back in the day but I do know there are lots of PS Elements reference books that will teach you how to get everything out of the software you can. A quick search on Amazon.com ought to get you squared away in a jiffy.

Good luck :-)

I vote to open the pandora's box...... you won't regret it. You will need CS when you upgrade to raw files and probably not untill then.

Hello all so many people are photoshop obcessed that they forget about other capable software at a fraction of the price of photoshop. I am not a photoshop hater I do own a legal copy of CS but for most of my work I use Paint shop pro which does not do everything PS does but it does so many things easily that to do in PS you need a phd. Most people that does the odd print or publish to the web can get by without PS and if your are a plugin fanatic almost all third party plugins will work on PSP. I know I may get flamed but we cant all afford a ferrari or a vyper. And after spending so much on hardware (camera glass and the like) why not save on software that most of us will never use to it's full potential. Well have a nice evening and I would like comments on both sides.

I have not used PSE2, but I did use the original PSE for a long time before I upgraded to PhotoShop 7.0.

I really liked PSE. It has much of the power of PhotoShop plus "wizards" to help the newby figure out how to do things.

PhotoShop itself takes away the wizards and leaves you on your own. So you have to know what you are doing to get anything good to come out of it.

I'd recommend saving your money and sticking with PSE2 until you outgrow it. By then, maybe an even better PS will be out. :-)
