I have a rough idea but it seems really vague...

What is the definition of a cityscape?

Examples are appreciated.

Thanks...but if we take something like this:

Would that be considered a cityscape?

Works for me.

As a parallel, a vast panaramic display of a lot of land is called a landscape, but the placing of each individual flower is also called landscaping. I see no reason to exclude a photograph from the landscape catagory because it is closer than what is normally considered.

A closeup of a building, people on the street, etc. are still artisitic compositions of a city. Different perspectives, concentrating on different facets of the object, but it is still an image of the object. In this case the object is a city.

Personally, there are a lot of pictures in the cityscape gallery that I don't think are true cityscapes. Just as a picture of a tree isn't a landscape, a picture of a building is not a cityscape.

As the definition says, it is a representation of a city or a section of a city as a scene.

Tranquil, I wouldn't call that particular picture a cityscape picture.

Britannica, I think that the placing of the flower is called landscaping because it affects the composition of the landscape as a whole. The flower is a part of the landscape, just as a building is a part of a cityscape.

As with many catagories, terms and the understanding of them can overlap. It is a probably a good idea to examine the emotional content of an image alongside with that which is literally depicted to arrive at a workable definition.
There are ironic interpretations as well - say, a picture of a clear-cut forest or a parking lot catagorized or titled even 'Landscape'...

Seems like a representation of a section of a city as a scene to me. Where else would you put it, Architecture? (Ah, I see it's already there too!)

Seems to me the idea with this photo is to convey the feel of the surrounding environs, as much as to highlight some unique architectural detail, and that Cityscape is a reasonable category. There's also a category for Urban, maybe it could go there ...
