G'day you all! I just arrive (late last night) from a 16 day journey of the land down under. I devoted a good amount of time to using my new Rebel and managed over 800 shots from Sydney to Cape Tribulation.
Now for your job. :)
If you all could visit my online albums (link to follow) dedicated to my favorite shots from each of my stops thorughout my journey. Now people, please humor me...I spent WAY too much time on on airplane to come back and not get feedback. Please feel free to comment on specific images, give me a lot of critique (an album would be just jolly!), erm, let me know if you want some prints (winkety wink) but I would really just want a lot of good feedback. Take your time and get back to me on this thread. Thanks SO MUCH!
Here are the albums chronologically listed:
Los Angeles (One Half Day)
Sydney (Two and a Half Days)
Green Island (Two and Half Days)
Cape Tribulation (One Day)
O'Reilley's Guesthouse; Near Beaudesert (One and a Half Days)
Brisbaine Area (One Day)
Please feel free to take it an album or photo at a time. Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated. This being my first extended expedition in my entire life where I actually kept an eye out for photography, I want all the help I can get.
Thanks mate,
Lee

I only had time to have a quick look. There are some great shots there. I especially liked the O'Reilly's Guesthouse ones and the animals. Good one.

G'day Mate.
Hope you had a good trip down under.
I don't think I can really critique your pictures...but I have looked at them and will let you know my thoughts.
Sydney -
The photo A Curve is my fav of the Operahouse/bridge photos. It is a unique angle and is done well. Most of the other photos are very common angles that have been taken many times.
The bridgeclimber photo is also another one I like. I like to call them lemmings, because I think they look like little groups of lemmings following eachother.
Green Island -
I like the detail in the sand of the snorkel photo, and the angle.
The windsurfer photo is also a good capture, and the motion captures the windiness (if that makes sense).
I find the stroll photo a bit too dark (but that is just my taste).
Snorkell boy is funny.
Brisbane -
The bridge photo is also a unique angle of that bridge (can't remember its name).
Of the wildlife photot I like the 'hide' shot of the koala the best.
O'Rielleys -
I hope you went on the treetop walk and went up the ladders to the very top of the trees, its good fun, with great views from the ladders.
Fire is a very nice shot, the colours are amazing.
Tree set is nice, but too dark for me. I would crop a bit more from the right (but I really don't know what I am talking about).
Two is my fav of these shots. I think the B/W does well in making the trees and people stand out from the background.
Farmscape really shows how dry it has become due to the drought.
I like the layering effect of the colours in the sunrise photo.
Capr Tribulation -
Driftwood is my fav.
Los Angeles -
Without Abode is a fantastic shot, even though it is sad. Love the detail, B/W works well and like the framing and angle.
Thats it.
Cheers,
Melanie

Hi Tranquil,
I am an Aussie and live on the far north coast of NSW (near Byron Bay). I loved your photos of Sydney. The opera house is one of the most amazing sights and with the backdrop being the harbour bridge, you can't go wrong. Very good.
As for your animal shots, I guess when you see those animals every day (our house backs onto bushland and there are koalas and roos in there and we see them everyday in the warmer months) you kind of get used to them so these photos just don't jump out at me but would to someone else. It's a pity you didn't get any photos of the birdlife (other than a Kooka). The parrots are just amazing.
All in all, a great effort. As someone else said on this tread, next time definately go to Kakadu. It is very beautiful and totally amazing. Another place that is a definate is Tasmania. Not many people know about our little gem down there. It is just spectacular. |

Yea I realize I was in American tourist animal shock...and i did manage to get a couple of parrot shots, but I did not like the way they turned out (it wasn't their fault either)...
I had to undersaturate this one...my best of the bunch.

Yeah and MY place! That bridge the "Storey Bridge" and is right near where I work. That parrot is probably the parrot I used for my failed desat challenge shot at O'Reilly's. I was on Green Island over new years. I was born and raised in Sydney. Just face it you are STALKING me!
I hope you had a great time we are proud of our beautiful country. Aren't we Bob.
