I have been told to stop centering everything and to remember the rule of thirds. I have also had a hard time with knowing how to crop a photo to give it the best effect. I ask you to look at this photo and give me an opinion on the cropping and an overall image critique. Thanks.

I think the composition is good. I think I would have prefered not cutting off the kittens butt.. his tail would probably add to the photo. Maybe crop it closer on the left side and show part of the flowers and the whole kitten? I love how the light makes the kittens fur seem like its glowing. The light makes a couple of glare spots on the glass that is distracting though.

And then again, what do I know. My photos suck mostly heh

I like just the opposite of the above suggestion.

I prefer a more minimalistic approach; since the kitten's head and the flower it is sniffing are the main elements of the composition, I would crop it close below the kittens head and to the left of the far flower. Like this

While I like the image, I would prefer the composition to exclude the second flower and have an arrangement of the kitten's head and flower that doesn't crop to a square format. This would allow the kitten to stretch its neck and not look so startled by the flower.

if you dislike me modifying your image, just say so and I will remove it.

both are great suggestions. I tried to crop it with just the head but it didnt look right, your way looks great! In response to the tail thing, I would have liked to include it, but it was out of the image. This was such a candid shot I'm lucky I got the cat to hold still long enough to take it hehe Thanks for the comments :)
