Woke up yesterday morning to one heck of a surprise, there were Turkeys in my backyard! I have never seen a wild turkey before so I tried my best to get a few photos but I was scared to death (hence the blurred foreground on a couple photos, I was hiding behind a bush, lol). They arent the greatest of quality because I was trying to stay as far away as possible while using my zoom and telephoto lens. These are straight out of the camera except for cropping. Anyway, just thought I would share :o)
"Why did the turkey cross the road?" hehe

Well captured Dana. I spotted a flock the weekend before last in western Maryland. They would not let me get close enough to get any shots with the 3x I had with me that day. The wild ones are quite a bit more intelligent than their white-feathered domestic cousins. The last two are very close. |

Don't be afraid of the wild turkeys. They won't bite, they will fly off well before ever considering attacking anything. (Unless they are nesting and then they might just do their best to lead you away more then anything else...)

Lucky you! I like the last one of Mr. Macho Turkey the best. The foreground foliage could be retouched out in Photoshop.
No reason to be afraid of turkeys. Just wave a can of cranberry sauce and they'll run for the hills. I love finding wild critters in my yard (unless they're eating it). I had some turkeys in my yard a few weeks ago- and they had some little Turkey McNuggets with them. I had fun chasing them around with a 70-200mm lens.
