I had a small heart attack this weekend when I whas emptying my memorystick in the xdrive, and left the camera on a chair and my mother who I can say has some weight, almost sits on it. My shout stoped her only inches from the camera everything is ok except my heart stopped for a few seconds and I get that chill on my spine every time I think of it. I guess my advice to everyone is never ever put your cameras where people sit!!!

reminds me, one time I was changing batteries on a canal towpath, I put the depleted ones down on a wall to change to the new ones and they proceeded to roll of the wall down a 12ft drop to the other side, luckily there was a set of steps 50 yds away and after clambering under and over numerous bushes I retreived them..slightly scratched :)

I think your 717 can survive someone sitting on it. I don't recommend you ask people to do this, but if someone actually does, it would be ok. Plus, they won't stay on it for long because as soon as they feel it, they'll get up again.

I let my wife keep my camera for a few minutes and she droped it and broke the big LCD screen!
Cost me $220 to have it fixed. |

Umm I'm not sure, that part where the lens flip up and down from the body doesn't feel so strong to me and my mother is not what you call an easy person. Also heavy weight people tend to be slower on jumping back up... I whas lucky I saw it in the verry last moment and I shout so lowd she just freezed for long enough I stretched my hand and grabed the cam. Anyways the point is I learned a lesson I wanned to share with people here. I will never ever put my cam on things where people usualy sit.

If I wanted to sit on my camera, I would have bought a Leica. Even then, I'd be wearing my padded Lederhosen just for the occasion.
