resize it to 640pixels on the longest side, then compress as necessary. :)

What pedro said.

If you're using photoshop you can use the "save for web" feature. If you're using something else, look for a 'settings' or 'options' button when the "save as" box is open. There you should be able to fine-tune the compression settings.

Is there an option in the File Menu called "Save For Web?" If so, click that, enter "640" in the image size box (on the longest side of the photo), then click 'apply'. Then you use the compression slider to make the file size under 150KB (it shows up in the bottom left corner).

If not, under the "Image" heading, click on "image size" and resize the image per instructions above. Then when you save, under File menu click "save as", and you'll be given the compression setting option. It's an extra step, but will give you similar results to save for web.

remember to save your original for when you get the original photo request when your photo is in the top five. :)

ps edit: oh yeah...you don't have to love me forever. just like me a lot until...say...tuesday or something.
