Good to see a post promoting the works of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.

He was a guest expert on the trip to Kenya I did in April and as such he shared meals and game drives with us and was quite a giggle. We also had an auction in aid of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation one evening.

A very talented man with an absolute passion for conservation.

I have tried to highlight the foundation on other websites (see here) but would like to encourage anyone interested in art to check out and consider purchasing some of the wonderful prints on sale via the website Peecee has given.

Another artist, Jonathan Truss, also provides his work for sale via the charity, he was also on the Kenya trip and lead the art safaris that I went on.

Peecee, didn't you buy some of his sketches? Or did you opt for the prints?

When we were in Kenya he did a demo for us and painted a lion in grass. His speed was incredible and what's more amazing - he painted it from memory because he's now painted so many lions he understands their physiology so well. That painting was finished the same or next day and auctioned at that auction.

Jonathan Scott also put in some of his sketches - I think they were signed prints. So did Jonathan Truss - his were original pencil sketches and were beautiful. He paints too. Actually when I got home I commissioned him to do me a pencil sketch of two cheetahs from a photo I took when out there and I am going to visit and pick it up this Friday. Last time I went to see him he was painting the elephants that came in to camp and crossed the river towards us. You can see the finished painting here, it's currently on the home page. JT Eles

I really love wildlife art.

I purchased a couple of small sketches and he put a greeting and signature on both, one of a young zebra and the other a hippo.
Both are wonderful, I had one signed to my sister and husband who were delighted.I also got a couple of signed calenders with some great pictures on them.
Jonathan's work looks superb, good people and a very worthy cause.
I hope you enjoy the commissioned sketch,
Paul.

Oh how wonderful - David Shepherd's original sketches are very sought after and valuable. If I buy any of his art I'm more likely to opt for a print of a sketch rather than an original for cost reasons... That's so nice of you to have one of the sketches signed for your sister and her husband - what a personal and thoughtful gift!

I just spoke to Truss and I am so excited about picking up my cheetah pencil sketch... because it's based on an image I took it will mean so much more to me. And I had offered him use of my other photos for any other of his work and he's done one of a lion cub hanging in a branch of a tree and he's saving it incase I want to buy it myself on Friday. Temptation temptation...

On the 31st I'm attending the reunion at David's house for those who attended the festival. I am hoping to talk to him and his daughter about ways that I can contribute to their fundraising using the skills that I have. I'm an IT Trainer so one idea I had was to offer them a day's training for auction (they often do small scale auctions) and maybe some businessman would pay for that? I don't know really. It's so hard to know how best to help.

I also thought I might put some animal photos for sale on DPC to contribute that way.

Anyway, I'm just burbling now so I'll go and get back on with work since I'm just procrastinating by even being on DPChallenge right now...

SIGH!

Marvellous Kavey,I doubt he'll remember me,they were very busy, maybe I was the only one who took his picture?
I will endeavour to support the cause and maybe, as you, I will find some way to give a little more to the foundation, they certainly deserve it.
p.s. they were only small sketches, they may even be prints of his sketches? but the signature and greeting was handwritten in front of me.
I would love to afford a couple of his larger works.
If you do see him, give him my regards and tell him my sister & hubby were delighted.

Paul Cartwright at Fleetwood Transport Fair, bought two sketches which David signed? Sure will... :o)

To be honest, I spent some time with him and though I believe he'll probably recognise my face when he sees me I don't know that he'd remember my name, nor would I expect him to - I think he does an awful lot of these events and although he spent a few days with those of us at this festival there were 40 of us there so... he'll probably remember my dad better than me as the two of them went out on a game drive together on the last morning before David left - they were the only two in the vehicle so they chatted quite a while.

Actually that morning three game drive vehicles (including the one I was in and the one with David and my dad) crossed a river (which was mostly dry) and we were lucky enough to come across Kike the cheetah (from Big Cat Diary) and her 3 almost adult cubs. But when we tried to cross back to camp a couple of hours later the water had risen and we couldn't cross. David was due to fly home that afternoon so it was rather unfortunate timing! I have a picture of him standing at the bank of this rushing river grinning madly! In the end the camp manager (who was in my vehicle so with us) managed to get a friend of his, one of the pilots who fly guests in to camps throughout the area, to pick us up when collecting some other passengers from a camp nearby and drop us back to our camp. What an adventure!

Paul
I'm sooo sorry. I went to the reunion at David's house (which is a DREAM house btw, god, I was very envious though I'm not suggesting he doesn't deserve it all). Well, I wanted to say hello to him from you but my brain went blank and all I could remember was PEECEE not Paul and I couldn't think where it was (Lincolnshire kept popping to mind but I knew that was wrong) so in the end I didn't say anything.
SORRY!

His wife Avril had cooked a lovely lunch and we ate at tables under the shade of a big tree in the large garden. We also laughed at the underground tunnel he had built between the house and the barn he has converted to a studio - it's only a few metres from the house! The studio is amazing - it was found in Horsham and dismantled and then reconstructed at his home! And he also showed us some of the paintings that are owned by the family so aren't on sale but some do tour in exhibits.

Anyway, sorry about that! BRAIN FAILURE!
