I have lost all sound from my pc! All my drivers are install and working but a message comes up saying "driver is enabled but has not been started"
Also under my sounds tab in control panel I cannot adjust the volume and it says no audio device. I have a sis 7018 audio driver.
Any tips would be soooo welcome.
Regards

The sound stopped working on my PC last fall. I use Windows XP and have System Restore enabled, so I just restored the system to a restore point from a few days earlier and that fixed the problem.
It stopped working again a couple of weeks ago, and I tried the System Restore trick to no avail. I finally discovered that my daughter had plugged in the headphones, which muted the speakers. |

Delete the sound driver
Shutdown the computer
Remove the card...
Reboot the computer and make sure no sound card anything anywhere is present
update everything from MS website
Take in writing all the # on the card (you have it in hand)
go to the company web site
download the good driver
unzip it
shutdown the pc
reinstall the card
when prompt, send it to the new unzip diver
should do ok
(have you plug the speaker in the out jack ??... sometime the is three hole... 1 out of 3 way to put it in the wrong place...
hope it help

goto your desktop, right click on my computer / go to properties/ hardware / device manager / sounds video and games/ look for an explination point / then update your driver there.

Did you by chance install WINXP SP2 RC2 recently? I'm running an ASUS A7N8X-X (nforce2 with an AC97 not a soundstorm APU) I went to Service Pack 2 Release Canidate 2 for XP and it hosed my sound drivers. Now my Mixer says No Device installed, but the sound card shows no problems in Device Manager, Sound works but I can not turn the volume down (or up).
Edited for Numbness...not enough coffee yet
