Just taking a second look at my recent holiday pics and came across this. Cropped, curves and ran through neatimage. I think I nead a quick dodge/burn tutorial to make this really nice, my attempts normally ruin the pic - any tips? I had a quick look at b&w but quite like the colour.

Usually dodging and burning is required for a scene that doesn't give the right mood. Your image looks pretty good as is. Maybe a bit of levels and curves is all it needs.

Thanks, I had a little play with levels and got some decent results, maybe have another bash tomorrow when I get tired of looking through my holiday pics lol.

I also tried this one, just a quick one though, not even close to the best I could do.

Ps. Heiðda, on your version it looks like the foreground is a painting, still trying to side if that is better or vorse, anyway it's a little strange. (And I'm not saying that to try make my version better than yours, because relly it isn't)

heida,
I just sent you a pm asking for some input and returned to see the above. Thanks for that and I'm glad you found the colour in the foreground. I've never added borders to my images and this is a pretty bold one, I like it - thanks :)

Great photo Andi, I like it the way it is. Although Heida did a good job also.

Here's a version with a single (somewhat complex) RGB curve, plus the matching black border :)

Paul, thanks for that :) and many thanks to all of you for your help/input. I've still got 100's of holiday pics to go through and remember taking lots of windmill and sky pics so I've got plenty to practice on.

As for "not fixing something thay isn't broke" (Naz) I wouldn't go as far as Heida and the Pamala comment but I reckon beautiful women (wearing makeup or not) still look better than not so beautiful women wearing makup. Learning is a wonderful thing isn't it lol

Have just re read this thread and noticed something. I started the thread with the pic of the mill and Heiða (amongst others) kindly did editing for me. When I typed this, the orig (my pic) had 116 views and Heiða's had 118. I was just wondering if people naturally view pictures by fotogs that always produce great images?

btw, I also have another thread running here about this pic. I think its an improvement on my pic here so I guess thanks goes to all the contibutors in the thread (especially Heiða for her tutorial).
