Just a little rant on how IMPOSSIBLE their instructions are to follow.

What pisses me off is their time sucking and deceptive pricing.

I went in there once looking for bookshelves. It was hell getting in there. Huge traffic jam of people trying to get into the parking lot. 20 minutes just to get a parking space a mile away from the store. After spending another 30 minutes in the store looking for cases I saw one I liked, about 4 feet tall, cherry in color. The price tag showed a good price, not great, but good. It also said there were three other finishes available. One was white, the other a maple, and black.

I pull a tag and head off through the maze to go to the warehouse portion to get my bookcase. 10 minutes of searching and we can't figure out where it is. Well, it's not in the right isle. Took a store employee another 15 minutes to track it down. In the process of trying to speed up our departure the employee scanned it and came up with a price ~$70 more than on the sign. He went on to explain that the price on the sign was for the base white shelves.

I went back and checked and there was no mention of a price difference for any of them. Not to mention the sign was on the same finish that I picked out. I headed back and asked him for a price adjustment because of the sign. He said they couldn't do it. I then said they should at least put the sign on a base model bookcase because people are going to think that's the price of that case. He just shrugged and said, "So, ya want this one or not."

So, with feet hurting, half the day wasted, and really pissed off about the price switching I left the store empty handed.

I've always had positive experiences at IKEA. I've always found what I wanted, always found it in the warehouse, and never had difficulty putting it together. Hmmmm.

I shopped at the IKEA in Burbank once and had no problems. Two visits to the Emmeryville store (one of which I described) have turned me off to shopping there.
