I want to get a good printer to print out some of my stuff at home, but not just any printer. I would like one of excellent quality plus the ability to print oversized images, I would like to print larger than 8x10, if possible. I know a good one will be expensive, but I would greatly appreciate some links of ones not too excessively priced. TIA

I'm in the process of looking for a new (semi-professional) printer as well. I was looking at the Epson 1280 and the Epson 2200. There is also an Epson R800 that was being talked about here. Do a forum search for "Epson" or "Printers" and you'll find quite a few links pertaining to printers.
I'll be watching this thread in case someone has something new to offer.

I've been looking at some printers lately and the HP 7960 seems to deliver great results. Check Luminous-landscape comments on it. I have some print samples here and are very impressive, though they're HP marketing samples.
It also seems to deliver very good results on BW printouts (at the expense of an special grey ink cartridge, indeed), though I haven't seen any printout (yet). |

I have an HP DeskJet 1220c which delivers outstanding color prints up to 13" by 19". Even though it is only 4-color, I am quite happy for all sizes and would only consider the next step being DPCPrints for quality improvements. Unfortunately, the 1220c is no longer available as new and I am not aware of any HP replacement. They (HP) seem to be concentrating on smaller format 6 and 8 color products.
Maybe you could find a used on on e-bay or somewhere else and if the price is right consider it.

There have been several threads on this topic in recent days. If you want to print oversize photo prints, the Canon i9900 is the only game in town (best bet: Newegg.com). For smaller sizes, the Epson R800 is king of the hill. Hewlett Packard does not currently sell anything that can compete with the output of these two printers. |

After owning three epson printers, I switched to Canon. The Epsons produced great results but the print heads clogged frequently. The Canon prints seem every bit as good and it has never clogged. I also hear that the Canon works better with other brands of paper, but I cannot validate that. The i9900 is the new large format printer with archival inks.

Hi ya Aero
I'm looking for a new printer as well and came across the new Epson R800. It is getting rave reviews and for what it can do I think it reasonably priced. Chech out this indepth review null
I'd love to hear from anyone with it as it has sold out in Australia and will not be available again until after August 2nd.

I believe that Gordon is a fan of the R800 and has recommended it on other printer threads. I use an Epson 2200 and am very happy with it. The Epson Stylus Pro 4000 looks very good as well.
