I'm trying to create a flat black background behind a glass, something like this:

Only with a completely black background. How should I go about doing this? Specifically, how the poop do I light it, without getting horrible reflections and so on?
Thanks,
Lee

See what happens if you try to inverse everything in post-production.

The thing with the shot you've shown, is that you haven't actually lit the glasses at all, in photographic terms - you've lit the background, and used the glasses to interrupt that and refract that light. Without the background ...

Also I would try using a black area just big enough to fill frame beind the glases, and surrounding that with a white lighted area - again, don't light the glasses themselves. You'll then get refractions and reflections of that white area (beyond your visible background) in the glass - should be more restrained than pointing light at the glass.

Thats a good idea e301, I'll give that a try.

Yea, I did try reversing the image, which then turns the glasses white, which looks rather unnatural - a good idea though.

I've created this one with a 500w light diffuse thru a white fabric, no other lights around me and the background is black velvet as it does not reflect light. hope it helps.

Where abouts did you place the light?
