Saw this dragonfly on a nature walk near the Cape May lighthouse in Cape May, New Jersey. Taken with 28-135 @ 56mm w/flash. He was about 4-5 inches from head to tailtip, scared the hell out of my girlfriend, and was entirely happy to let me snap a bunch of shots without ever getting cranky.

Its eyes were quite interesting and looked like they were made of chrome.

Maybe you can find an ID on this site. Looks like a very good online field guide to dragonflies.

Probably a Swamp Darner. For that area, the New Jersey Odonata page is a good reference. |

Luckily we don't have any creepy insects like this one here in Iceland... Great shot though
