		I own a Nikon D100 and my current lenses are a 17-35 2.8, a 70-300 3.5, a macro lens and a 28-80 3.5 They are all nikon lenses

I'd like to upgrade my 28-80 which is the lens I use most but I'm not sure whether I should get the 35-70 2.8 or the 28-70 2.8.
There is a significant difference in the price and I'm not sure if it's worth spending twice as much for the 28-70 just to get a little bit wider angle.

Can someone tell me if I'm missing something? Why is it so much more expensive? |

You must always remember your crop size. (1.5x isn't it?)

Depending on how much it costs, I think you will get alot more freedom with the 28-70. |

I have the 28-70 2.8, and it is an impressive lens. The f/2.8 is built like a tank and is HEAVY. It also has the silent wave motor, which is a must have in my opinion. The lens is also horribly expensive, but I fear it'a worth the money. Atleast, that is what I keep telling myself.

My recommendation: Go to your local shop, and mount each. Feel the 28-70 versus the others, and also feel the SW motor. I carried around my D100 with this lens this weekend, and it put a toll on my hands.

The money is about the quality of the glass, not the focal lengths.

 Best of luck.

I've never used these lenses, so I can't comment on them. But what DJLuba said makes sense.

All I can say is I wouldn't go for the 28-70 just for the focal length since you already have a 17-35. |

I have the 28-70 f/2.8 as well. I take probably 80% of my shots with this lens. Yes it's heavy and large, but it is also crisp and has great contrast and color. I have shot some weddings with it as well as other portrait work, and I appreciate the added wider zoom range when trying to include several people in the shot.

To me the price was worth it. This is a top of the line lens for your camera.
