I am beginning to notice something as I rate the June free study photos... I think that this process will influence my future work. For the first time I'm getting a real sense of what is working (for me) and what isn't. I've only commented on one so far but plan to go back and refine my votes and add comments. I just went through them all and have quite a different feeling this time than I have during other challenges. Perhaps the reason is that this challenge doesn't have a topic so I'm looking strictly at photographic merit. I'm seeing many photos that I might have shot myself that don't really quite work. This is giving me a subtle "Aha!" feeling about my own work... as in "hmmm it doesn't really work well here and I do this so it most likely doesn't quite work in my photos either." I am actually more excited about rating and analyzing the submissions this time than I am with how well mine is doing (just above 5). So maybe this really is a learning experience... ;) Ann

I really learn a lot from voting and commenting too. I haven't been able to enter the last few challenges because we moved to a new house and I haven't had photoshop or DSL access on the home computer, but I still feel like I've gotten a lot out of this site just by viewing the photos -- free study and portraits in particular. I do think this site is a great place to learn!
