is there anything special i should look for in a bracket - any advice will help.

Perhaps the placement of bars to make sure that the zoom or focus rings are easily accessible. I like the ability to adjust the tension of the Newton bracket I have (Di400CR). I set it when I first got it and haven't had to mess with it but its nice that I can decide how hard/easy it is to swing from horizontal to vertical shots.
